The reliable Asics Gel DS Trainer 23 is the first name which shows up when someone thinks about performance running shoes with moderate pronation support (maybe the second one if already a fan of Adidas Adizero Tempo 9). There is no need to change something if it is not broken, so the japanese brand just introduced minor ones to keep an attractive design and raise price tag a little bit. Replacing Solyte foam with FlyteFoam™ has been consolidated on current Gel DS Trainer 23 to stay on the top when choosing running shoes for interval or tempo training.
As expected, the few changes compared with its predecessor Gel DS Trainer 22 take place in the upper being the "Adapt mesh" (already seen in delightful Dynaflyte 2) the most interesting one because it increases ventilation for enhanced breathability and allows limited expansion for more secure fit. Reflective elements (like well-known Asics logo only available on external side) have been developed in collaboration with renowed developed in collaboration with renowned chemical manufacturer 3M® to increase visibility under poor light conditions.
Rest of Gel DS Trainer 23 remains the same (including 10 mm drop like premium Gel Kayano 24) with FlyteFoam™ playing main role in midsole for responsive cushioning. Other elements available are the mandatory Gel® pad in rearfoot to enhance comfort and regular plastic shank (Trusstic System®) in midfoot for appreciated stiffness. No changes as well in progressive pronation support which is provided by classical medial post (dual density Dynamic DuoMax®) in the internal side. Outsole includes typical vertical flex groove (Guidance Line®) for smooth ride featuring different rubber depending on the area with DuoSole® (the "DS" in the name stands for "Duo Sole") in the forefoot for quick toe-off and AHAR+ in more exposed ones for increased durability.
