As usual, most changes compared with its predecessor Wave Rider 20 take place in the upper which is now much more breathable with more open mesh, something that might even disturb most sensitive runners when it is too cold outside. Other improvements are focus on comfort with removable premium sockliner and more padded and softer collar that also promotes better and more secure fit. There are not many reflective elements available so please take it into account when running outside under poor light conditions.
Current Wave Rider 21 is still one of the running shoes featuring 12 mm drop. One step above inside of Mizuno's lineup the new Wave Sky has lowered it down to 10 mm and its smaller sibling Wave Shadow has reduced it to 8 mm following most modern drop trends. There is no change in midsole based on reliable foam U4ic with CloudWave™ plate and U4icX pad under the heel to enhance cushioning when landing. Outsole remains as well the same with SmoothRide™ technology for good flexibility and quick response while using more durable rubber X10 in more exposed areas to increase durability.
