With current second edition Mizuno Wave Sky 2 completely forgets about good old Enigma saga and consolidates own personality to fight not only against powerful "traditional" competitors like Asics Gel Nimbus 20 or cushy Brooks Glycerin 16 but also new ones closer to casual shoes like beautiful Adidas Solar Boost. Definitely a high value segment because all running shoes offer the best from each brand at typically high price.
Most changes compared to its predecessor Wave Sky take place in upper where most interesting feature is AeroHugâ„¢ technology to embrace midfoot for snug fit although it raises some concerns about breatability. Mesh in forefoot has been updated as well and presents different thickness depending on the area to increase either protection or ventilation, a similar approach already available in its peer with pronation support Wave Horizon 2.
Midsole in Wave Sky 2 is exactly what expected from Mizuno running shoe with abundant and firm cushioning, one step above from its smaller sibling Wave Ultima 10 although latter can be purchased at lower price. So 10 mm drop midsole configuration from top to bottom is ruled by softer foam U4icâ„¢ above double CloudWaveâ„¢ plate while firmer U4icXâ„¢ one is at the bottom. There is no change in outsole which keeps main grooves to improve flexibility for smooth transition and more robust rubber (X10) is used in more exposed areas to increase durability.
